Who is Pop? The original Pop was my Father, George Haas. He was a good man, a good father, and my best friend. He was wise far beyond his sixth grade education.
As we worked around the farm or enjoyed hunting and fishing together, he taught me lessons with his often short observations on life.
I became a grandfather years after my father had died. When Jennifer, my daughter, asked what I wanted to be called by first grandchild, Victoria
I told her that “Pop” was not currently taken, and I would be proud to be called what everyone around Hudson, NC called my dad.
I hope that, to some degree, I have inherited his wit, wisdom, and insight.
I did learn, from my father and other wise people, that important lessons come in small doses.
Some of these short insights are from my memory of lessons from MY Pop, some are from my own thoughts, observations, and in some cases, mistakes.
Please check in here about weekly for the latest “Pop Says.” May be a little less often if I’m out in the woods somewhere.
Right now, let me leave you with one of my Dad’s pearls: “Young ‘uns, dogs and crops all need the same things –
food, water, love, and a good place to grow.”
